Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about NutriLuma
Getting Started
You can log meals three ways: take a photo, speak a description, or type it out. NutriLuma analyzes your input and identifies the foods and portions. No searching through databases or weighing ingredients. Just describe your meal naturally and we handle the rest.
Our database combines multiple verified sources including government databases and peer-reviewed research. For portion estimation from photos, we use advanced image recognition trained on thousands of meal images. While no system is perfect without precise weighing, our estimates are accurate enough for educational purposes and tracking patterns over time.
Three main differences: First, we analyze every essential nutrient, not just calories and macros. Second, we provide educational context explaining why each nutrient matters. Third, we use personalized educational ranges based on nutritional science, not generic government minimums. We're built by nutrition educators, not a tech company.
No. NutriLuma is designed to work with natural descriptions. Say "a palm-sized piece of salmon" or "a large handful of spinach" and we estimate accordingly. Of course, if you want to be precise and weigh things, you can include that information too.
Nutrition & Education
Government RDAs (Recommended Daily Allowances) represent minimum amounts to prevent deficiency in most people. Our educational ranges are based on decades of nutritional science research by Plaskett International College, representing levels that support optimal function. These are personalized based on your profile and are for educational purposes-not medical prescriptions.
Dr. Lawrence Plaskett was a pioneering biochemist who understood nutritional science at the cellular level. His research and teachings form the foundation of Plaskett International College, which has trained nutritional therapists for over 20 years. The educational ranges and insights in NutriLuma are based on his work.
No. NutriLuma is an educational tool, not a medical device. It helps you learn about nutrition through your own eating patterns. It does not diagnose, treat, prevent, or cure any disease. Always consult qualified healthcare professionals for medical advice.
We track over every essential nutrient including: all macronutrients (protein, carbohydrates, fats, fiber), all essential vitamins (A, B-complex, C, D, E, K), major minerals (calcium, magnesium, zinc, iron, selenium, potassium, and more), amino acid profiles, and fatty acid breakdowns (omega-3, omega-6, saturated, unsaturated).
